August Wrap Up - NorCal Summer

urban sidewalk garden, Mission district

Lately, I haven't had much free time during the week outside of work and work-related events, so I've particularly savored any down time. And while I took a few much-needed moments to space out on the couch as well as to clean and organize my neglected home, I also wanted to continue taking advantage of free time to hang with friends and explore the area. I've gone around the Bay Area a bit (floating down the Russian River, barbecuing at China Beach in Marin, chilling out in Half Moon Bay). In the city itself I've mostly stuck to my part of town, going to a couple more Giants games, checking out some new-to-me restaurants and bars, and trying to avoid Karl the Fog during the month of Fogust. A while back I read this post on Apartment Therapy and realized I adhere to the mantra: "The city is my living room." In words and pictures here is what August looked like:

The Tradesman
I passed this place a few weeks back and we swung by for a low-key dinner after work. They bill themselves as a wine+beer bar but their food menu is solid, too.

Flour+Water pasta at Central Kitchen
I've been wanting to go to Central Kitchen ever since I got here! I saved it for a special occasion which was my brother's visit, and among him, my husband and me we got to share a bunch of goodies from the menu.

sunset at China Camp State Park
China Camp is one of many gems up in Marin - so close to the city distance-wise but it feels like a world away.

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day (giveaways from It's It)

A friend tipped a bunch of us off that It's It would be giving away their beloved ice cream in Dolores Park, so that was an easy activity to say 'yes' to.

Lyft Nation promo @ SF Giants game
Ok, this photo's actually from the last week of July, but it was quickly followed by two more Giants games seen from the bleachers in early August.

the inimitable Motha Chukka @ El Rio
El Rio is another spot I'd been wanting to visit for a while and some friends gave me the perfect reason: a Dolly Parton-themed show. I'd seen Motha Chukka perform before and she is a doyenne of the SF scene. They also had other queens as well as an awesome live band that killed all the Dolly covers. The bar also has a build-your-own bloody mary, with bacon. Amen.

I can't believe summer's almost over although really for San Francisco, it's just getting started. I love our Indian summers and can't wait to see what Sept and October have in store.
