This month is my three-year anniversary of moving to San Francisco! Since I moved here during the summer, every year around this time I am reminded of that whole process, especially the housing search. I remember thinking, somewhat arrogantly, that if I could survive the NYC apartment search and even the DC market, then surely I could secure a place out in this "little" city. 5 days and 15 appointments/open houses later, I finally put an earnest deposit down on a spot, and it's become my home base for the past few years of West Coast adventures.
With that, here's the latest...
Every July since I've moved here I've gone back and spent some time in NJ, and this year was no different. I got to hang with my loved ones and check out some new places back East, but I still had some quality SF/Bay Area time in with the following:
Watching the Spartan Race at AT&T Park (my cousin flew in to compete among the pros) early on a Saturday morning:
7am with Karl the Fog at AT&T Park |
Hiking with friends to reach Sommerfest, starting in downtown Mill Valley (the Dipsea trail steps were not easy)and ending up on Mt. Tam:
natural beauty near Muir Woods/Mt Tam |
Leisurely dinners in the neighborhood:
Mochica
Long Bridge Pizza
...plus a Saturday afternoon trying some famous, prize-winning pizza.

- The Martian - entertaining sci-fi (I just kept picturing Matt Damon, I admit)
- Inside Out - loved loved loved it. Not sure how much of it would actually go over children's heads, but I think its great Pixar decided to address emotions in this way
- (started) Give and Take - heard about it from The Billfold ... definitely a business/personality book for someone like me
- (started) "Orange is the New Black" ... my favorite part of this show is the flashbacks of each character
- "True Detective" Season 2 ... making Guerneville look creepy as hell
- How to Camp - as a grown woman who just had her first camping trip this summer, I thought this could be pretty helpful
