April Wrap Up

Well, last month felt like a blur. There were milestones to celebrate with friends: birthdays, a baby shower, and I kicked off May with a wedding of dear friends last weekend. April started with Easter weekend, and ended with watching the team my husband coaches win against their biggest rival in the last game of the season. (Then May started with watching them win their league championship, in double OT!) My favorite activities in April included volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club (an event I set up through my office) and seeing The Book of Mormon. And in between all these things there was work and sleep and such...

Also, recently I've been mulling over the quote above. Sometimes it makes me think of Apple, a company that is able to make powerful, industry-disrupting products that still look and feel simple enough for a toddler to figure out. Sometimes I think of this saying in terms of style, picturing the lady with a chic minimalist wardrobe posting photos of sunlight, white-washed scenery, coffee mugs, fresh flowers and luxurious textiles (either on the woman and/or in her home). Work-wise, it could be the presentation that looks very clean and simple but took hours of research and edits from a whole team. The simplicity of the finished product belies the sophisticated efforts that brought it.

But in regards to my own life, how simple is it really? And how can I keep the feeling of simplicity when there is just so much going on. I have made trade-offs - eating takeout or ready-made meals has helped these last few weeks but I am looking forward to restocking the kitchen and actually spending time in it. In terms of getting dressed, having nearly all my office clothes pretty much match each other is something I am grateful for each morning. I'm not quite at the level of a daily uniform, but I'm close! (As much as I appreciate style, I appreciate sleep more.) One thing I want to start doing is to set an intention each week and refer back to it each day so I can mark my progress. It might be one more thing to add to the to-do list, but I think ultimately it will make life simpler.
